WWF Ultimate Showdown

Live on NBC!

Friday night, February 3rd

Tucson, AZ

Gorilla Monsoon (on play-by-play commentary): ‘Well this is it, tonight, Jess! The Ultimate Showdown, first of all between Bobby “The Brain” Heenan’s Brain Busters and his long-standing rivals, Hulk Hogan, the King of the Ring, and the WWF World Champion, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, with Miss Elizabeth!’ Jesse “The Body” Ventura (on colour commentary): ‘You can’t start a show much better than this, Gorilla, because the Mega-Powers get the chance to try and cement their status as the greatest tag team in the World Wrestling Federation! But the Brain Busters are looking to make them a stepping stone into contention for the WWF Tag Team Championship!’

The Mega-Powers, King of the Ring Hulk Hogan and WWF World Champion “Macho Man” Randy Savage, take on the Brain Busters, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. Bobby Heenan’s men succeed in applying technical holds on the champ to wear him down, while preventing him from making the tag for several minutes. However, eventually he succeeds, tagging in the Hulkster, who cleans house, and dominates until Bobby Heenan climbs onto the apron to distract him, and allowing his men to reclaim the advantage. Eventually, Hogan makes the tag to Randy, who has his turn to strike, only to have his momentum used against him, thrown over the top rope and onto Elizabeth, knocking her unconscious. Hogan rushes to her aid, picking her up and carrying her backstage to receive medical attention. The Brain Busters grab the WWF World Champion in the ring and double-team him. Once recovering, Elizabeth insists on Hogan returning to the ring to help Randy as Sean Mooney covers the events from backstage. After several near-falls, the Brain Busters notice Bobby Heenan’s calls too late about Hogan’s return to ringside, and after climbing back onto his corner, Randy manages to fight off a distracted Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, then reach Hogan and tag him, before slapping him in the face, taking his WWF World Championship belt, and heading backstage. A confused Hogan is left to fight by himself, and is subjected to an onslaught, with the Brain Busters taking no chances this time and staying focused. Eventually, a battered Hogan collapses at ringside and is counted-out. The Brain Busters, and Bobby Heenan, celebrate like never before, as the exhausted Hulkster staggers backstage.

There, Sean Mooney reports from the medical room where an angry “Macho Man” Randy Savage is talking to Elizabeth as she lay on a stretcher, asking her what Hulk Hogan tried to do with her back here. An exhausted Hulkster joins them, asking them what’s going on. ‘You tell me, Hogan!’ shouts Randy, as Elizabeth implores him to listen to her. Hogan: ‘Brother, what is wrong with you?’ Randy: ‘What do you want, huh? You want Elizabeth? Is that it? Is that why you’re jealous of me? Is that why you eliminated me from the Battle Royal?’ Hogan: ‘Randy, that’s ridiculous, we already talked about that; it was an accident. Elizabeth, talk some sense into him! Randy, I don’t want her in that way; she’s my friend, like you are!’ Randy: ‘No! You won’t admit you want her? Then maybe it’s just this you want!’ Randy smashes Hogan in the head with the WWF World Championship belt, knocking him to the floor, then punching him repeatedly, as Elizabeth screams. Officials run in and separate them.

Back in the broadcast booth, Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse “The Body” Ventura are in shock. Monsoon: ‘I can’t believe what we just saw, Jess. Possibly the greatest tag team in professional wrestling history not only lost tonight, but self-destructed.’ Jesse: ‘It is shocking, Gorilla, but in fairness, the Mega-Powers have been a ticking time bomb for a while now. Hogan eliminated Savage from the Battle Royal at the Royal Rumble, making himself King of the Ring and by default number one contender to the WWF World Championship.’ Gorilla: ‘Will you stop? Hogan’s elimination of Savage was an accident that he apologised for. That is some kind of paranoia and projection of jealousy from the WWF World Champion.’ Jesse: ‘Jealousy? What does he have to be jealous about?’ Monsoon: ‘Are you kidding me? Randy’s known for becoming a green-eyed monster where Miss Elizabeth is concerned. And I’m sorry to say he’s let that get the better of him tonight, and ruined something great. It’s a sad day in the World Wrestling Federation, Jess. Let’s go back to ringside.’

Andre the Giant, with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, defeats Jake “The Snake” Roberts by pinfall, after “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase instructed Virgil to run to ringside and take Jake’s snake sack, distracting him.

Backstage, Sean Mooney reports: ‘This is what we know. Miss Elizabeth suffered a suspected mild concussion from the incident in the match, and Hulk Hogan took her backstage for medical attention. She told him to return to the match to help “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and he did, only to get slapped in the face, as you all saw, as the champ abandoned his partner, leaving him for dead. Back here, Randy asked Elizabeth if Hogan had made an advance on her, believing that he carried her away for that reason, but she dismissed the suggestion as ludicrous. Hogan then lost the match, came back here for an explanation, and was assaulted by Randy right here in this medical room. Randy has since left with Elizabeth, and after receiving some brief medical attention himself, Hogan has been taken to the hospital for some check-ups, as we understand he also received minor injuries in the two-on-one match. Despite being advised to also go to the hospital, Elizabeth left with Randy, and their whereabouts, at least for now, are unknown.’

Hercules defeats Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, with “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart, by pinfall after a suplex from the top turnbuckle.

Backstage, “Mean” Gene Okerlund interviews Bobby “The Brain” Heenan: ‘Well you’re a very happy man tonight, having already enjoyed two victories so far. But don’t you feel they were cheapened?’ Heenan: ‘There’s nothing cheap about me, Gene. Tonight, my Brain Busters proved they’re a better tag team than the Mega-Powers, and they’re a better unit than the Mega-Powers, who were finally beaten, and broken, by my men. We did that. We ended it. And as for Jake “The Snake” Roberts, if he can’t focus on the match at hand and is instead preoccupied with his pet snake, he’ll be punished for it, not least by my Andre the Giant. This is the World Wrestling Federation, and if you don’t stay focused, you pay the price.’ Okerlund: ‘That’s not the only price paid, though, is it, considering “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase’s meddling in your business.’ Heenan: ‘That’s not my business, that’s DiBiase’s business, and that’s up to him. My protégées tonight won fair and square, providing huge victories for me, and it’s not over yet. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got another win to oversee…’

The Ultimate Warrior defeats “Ravishing” Rick Rude, with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, by pinfall, to continue his undefeated streak!

On Face to Face, with “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Rockin’ Robin (from a studio in Hammon, Louisiana) is accused of hiding behind the Rockers by WWF Women’s Champion The Fabulous Moolah (from a studio in Columbia, South Carolina). ‘I’m not hiding behind anyone like you are, Moolah,’ she retorts. ‘And to prove it, when I challenge you, I’ll ask the Rockers to stay home, you can keep the Rougeaus away, keep that pipsqueak Jimmy Hart away, and go face to face, toe to toe with me!’ Moolah: ‘You think I need any help in beating down a punk kid like you, Robin? You wouldn’t even be in the World Wrestling Federation if it wasn’t for having friends in high places!’ Robin: ‘Oh? And who’s that?’ Moolah: ‘Me! You teamed up with me at the Survivor Series the year before last and that’s the only reason you’re even here. Well, I’m gonna enjoy beating you up, keeping my WWF Women’s Championship belt, and making fabulous moolah!

The Powers of Pain, with Master Fuji, win their match.

On Update, Sean Mooney reviews the Ultimate Showdown, ‘which did indeed turn into the ultimate showdown between the Mega-Powers themselves, when the unthinkable happened, as WWF World Champion “Macho Man” Randy Savage turned against partner Hulk Hogan, and left with Miss Elizabeth. We hope to hear from them on this coming week’s episode of Tuesday Night Titans. But right now, let’s hear from this man, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, who lost to Andre the Giant after the “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase had his manservant Virgil snatch Jake’s snake bag!’ Jake: ‘So the business relationship between Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase goes on. And he had Virgil do his dirty work for him, making sure to remove the fear factor for Andre the Giant’s match with me. But their fear remains. Because I found Damien still inside the sack, in the back. Virgil didn’t dare take him. DiBiase sure as hell didn’t dare, did he? Who can blame them? Who would want Damien? Other than myself, of course. And sooner or later, they’ll realise it’s more than just Damien that Virgil fears. He can’t keep fighting DiBiase’s battles for him. No. All of DiBiase’s money won’t be able to protect him from his very own fear. And I know what he fears. Not just Damien. But the DDT.’ Sean Mooney: ‘Well the business relationship between “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan may indeed continue, and DiBiase’s Royal Rumble tag team partners the Brain Busters are still celebrating their victory over the Mega-Powers themselves. Here’s what the Brain himself had to say about it.’ Bobby “The Brain” Heenan (with the Brain Busters, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard): ‘My Brain Busters beat the Mega-Powers. That’s in the history books. And you can close the book on the Mega-Powers, because they’re finished. And in their very last match together, they lost to the Brain Busters. That’s something Hulk Hogan in particular is going to have to live with, since he’s the one who got beaten up and counted out. And these men have now made their claim to contention for the WWF Tag Team Championship. WWF President Jack Tunney has to take notice. Because you’re looking at the greatest tag team in the World Wrestling Federation, and as soon as they get their shot at those belts, they’ll prove that, and make history yet again.’

Brother Love interviews WWF World Champion “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Brother Love: ‘At the Ultimate Showdown, Randy, you finally unleashed all of your pent-up frustrations over the repeated betrayals by Hulk Hogan, and triggered the beginning of the end of the Mega-Powers! It’s now only a matter of time until this whole thing explodes. But where is Miss Elizabeth?’ Randy: ‘Elizabeth is still recuperating, Brother Love, and she needs to get her head right, because she has a good heart, but she’s also very naive, yeah!’ Brother Love: ‘I saw the lust for Elizabeth in the eyes of Hulk Hogan, Randy! I saw it in his eyes!’ Randy: ‘Brother Love, Hulk Hogan coveted Elizabeth, he coveted this title belt, and after years of being “The Man” in the World Wrestling Federation, he couldn’t stand being in my shadow this last year, and he’s done everything he could to sabotage me while keeping his Hulkamaniacs believing he’s a good man. He isn’t. I’m a good man! I’m The Man! I’m “Macho Man” Randy Savage and I’m the WWF World Champion, and he’s not!’ Brother Love: ‘Well, well, well, Randy, bless your heart for speaking the truth to these people today, to the deceived and misguided who follow Hulk Hogan as he covets Elizabeth and covets your WWF World Championship!’

Rick “The Model” Martel, with Slick, wins his match.

Before the main event of the show, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan snatches the microphone from Mike McGuirk: ‘I know I don’t have to tell you humanoids that I’m one of the most successful men in all of professional wrestling. I’ve led this man, Mr Perfect, to a perfect record, I’ve handled the contracts of champions, I’ve reaped rewards, and enjoyed my beautiful home in Beverly Hills, which I can tell you is a far cry from this town I find myself in tonight. I’ve developed a very healthy business relationship with “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase. I’ve made many investments in my time. But who is going to continue my legacy, years from today? This is important. So one of my greatest ever investments has been to find another brain; not just another brain, but a genius; not just a genius, but The Genius! The smartest man in the world, from Oxford to Harvard, and now to the World Wrestling Federation, I present to you: The Genius!’ The Genius joins them in the ring. Brain: ‘I am handling the business side of my protégées, but this man, The Genius, will be devising the strategies for further success!’ Genius: ‘I am the Genius, full of glory and renown! And I’m here for the one and only Brain. Combine me with his stable, and we’ll keep the good men down! They’ll all end up in agonizing pain.’

Mr Perfect, with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, beats “Rugged” Ronnie Garvin by count-out after they fought outside the ring, but he beat the count when Genius provoked Garvin, who grabbed him.

On Face to Face with “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and the Brain Busters (from a studio in Beverly Hills, CA) challenge the number one contender status of The Rockers (from a studio in Columbus, GA). Heenan: ‘Let’s get something straight right now, Rockers: you may have done well, you may have had some success with your high-flying moves and streamers and screaming girls, but you can’t claim to be tag team specialists and you sure as heck can’t claim to be the number one contenders to the WWF Tag Team Championship, because both apply to these two gentlemen right here. My friend The Genius will gladly tell you, that when you look for the definition of tag team in the dictionary, you’ll get a picture of the Brain Busters!’ Arn Anderson: ‘Bobby, I’ve heard these two young punks talk about how great they are, and it makes me sick, because the only true specialists in the tag team division of the World Wrestling Federation are the Brain Busters!’ Tully Blanchard: ‘That’s right, Arn. We’ve honed our craft for years from city to city, and we’ve become specialists. And you flash-in-the-pan fly-by-night young punks have the audacity to come along and claim to be tag team specialists, when you know we’ve forgotten more than you could ever learn.’ Heenan: ‘This is why they’re my Brain Busters, you see. If you two kids ever have the privilege of getting in the ring with them, you’ll need to use your brains too, because you’ll learn a lot – if they’re not completely bashed in by the end of the match.’ Marty Jannetty: ‘Okay, enough of that, we’ve heard enough, now listen to us. There’s no doubt you’ve got a good tag team there, Heenan, and they’ve worked together for some time and dominated every place they’ve ever been. But now you’re in the World Wrestling Federation, with us, and we’re on equal footing.’ Shawn Michaels: ‘Yeah, you can make all your claims all you like, but it doesn’t mean a thing until you’ve proven yourselves, in the ring, here in the World Wrestling Federation, with us! And we’ll settle this, and find out who truly are going to be next in line for a WWF Tag Team Championship shot! So make yourself useful, Heenan, and make it happen.’ Heenan: ‘Oh, I’ll make it happen. I’ve already begun lobbying Jack Tunney’s office because there’s no way I’m going to let you guys go to the front of the line after WrestleMania. I went to great lengths to not only bring Tully and Arn into the World Wrestling Federation, but I risked my friendship with Fuji as well, and I am determined to see gold around the waists of these two men – and it’ll be long before we see it on you!’

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan wins his match.

On Update, Sean Mooney reviews claims the “Road to WrestleMania” will start at Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC live from Madison Square Garden on March 11th: ‘The World’s Most Famous Arena hosts Saturday Night’s Main Event, the starting point for the Road to WrestleMania, which will be the greatest professional wrestling extravaganza of all time! And as homage to WrestleMania history, Hulk Hogan will take on Andre the Giant in a WrestleMania III rematch, right there in Madison Square Garden! As if that wasn’t enough, Hercules will finally face “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase – and there’s gold at stake, as Rockin’ Robin finally challenges the WWF Women’s Champion, The Fabulous Moolah!’

Vince McMahon and Lord Alfred Hayes host a Valentine’s Day edition of the show, which includes, bizarrely, the Young Stallions discussing hot dates, and Paul Roma, in particular, romancing female members of the audience. Hayes calls him “Romeo.” “Ravishing” Rick Rude appears later on to give credit where it’s due to “Romeo” Roma, but says the Young Stallions’ Royal Rumble partner, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, needs help more than anyone ‘because he’s so ugly.’

After delivering a speech about Valentine’s Day and his brand of “love,” Brother Love interviews Mr Perfect, with The Genius and Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, who says, ‘There are many reasons Curt Hennig came into the World Wrestling Federation and was called Mr Perfect. But don’t take it from me.’ Mr Perfect: ‘You only have to look at me! From the perfect natural blonde hair, to the perfect piercing blue eyes, and the perfect teeth with no cavities. But beyond that, beyond superficialities, let’s look at the results in the ring. I’ve got a perfect record! I’m undefeated since I came into the World Wrestling Federation last year!’ Heenan: ‘But there’s a man who likes to run around waging war and gets more recognition by the so-called journalists of the World Wrestling Federation for also being unbeaten, albeit in less impressive fashion than Mr Perfect. The Ultimate Warrior may have beaten “Ravishing” Rick Rude, but that’s okay, Rick’s a good wrestler, he’ll fight on, and he’ll have plenty more victories of his own. But The Genius here spotted so many chinks in the Ultimate Warrior’s armour, and now if he wants to put his own unbeaten path on the line against Mr Perfect’s perfect record, he can go ahead. Because that’s the thing about my protégées, they all help each other out.’ Perfect: ‘This is aside from the fact that Rick and I go way back, we went to the same school, we trained together, we helped each other, and we have the perfect person to second us to that ring each and every match: Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. But I have someone else: The Genius.’ The Genius: ‘The warpath of the Ultimate Warrior is about to reach an end, because we know how to bring him to his knees. When all is said and done, I’ll raise the hand of Mr Perfect, once he’s disposed of his rival with great ease. Mr Perfect will continue with his own path of perfection, after he’s enacted my perfect plan! The only streak left unblemished will be the Perfect Record, and proud will be the world’s smartest man!’

It is revealed that Demolition, Ax and Smash, will indeed defend their WWF Tag Team Championship against Master Fuji’s Powers of Pain, Warlord and Barbarian, at WrestleMania!

Hulk Hogan is interviewed by Vince McMahon and Lord Alfred Hayes, asked if any of “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s claims have any truth. Hogan: ‘You know something, this goes way back to Andre the Giant, and that’s some unfinished business I look forward to settling at Saturday Night’s Main Event, brother. But when it became apparent I wasn’t going to be able to grab back that WWF World Championship belt, I wanted to stand by “Macho Man” Randy Savage, because I thought the Hulkamaniacs still had someone they could look up to. But not any more. He talks about tolerating me, but I tolerated his jealousy, I tolerated all the times he let me down, and I tolerated all the times he didn’t want to talk to me or didn’t answer my calls, or ignored me in the locker room. Something inside him was eating him away, but I let all that slide and tried to support him and be there for him, because that’s what brothers do, and I loved him like a brother. I knew he was in love with Elizabeth, and she’s tolerated far more than I have, so God knows she’s in love with him too. Like a brother, I was there for him, and I was there for her when he couldn’t be. But this is a battle with himself, not me, man! I never wanted anything of his. I never wanted Elizabeth as anything more than a friend. And I never wanted that WWF World Championship belt; I held it for four years, and never got beat for it, so I had nothing to prove. The only one who feels like he had something to prove was Randy, because he never beat me for that belt, and it ate him away inside, because to him, everyone is a rival, everyone is a challenger. But I never once went to Jack Tunney to ask for a title shot, and Elizabeth can tell him that. Not even when I became King of the Ring did I make a claim to my right of a title shot. Because I respected Randy. But he never respected me. And worse than that, he never respected himself. He has been consumed by jealousy, by envy, and I’m done, brother! I hope Elizabeth can still talk some sense into him, because I’m done! I don’t want anything to do with him, not as a friend or as an enemy. And Andre the Giant, here’s a message for you if you’re watching: This all started with you! And now I’m gonna end it, by beating you at Saturday Night’s Main Event, March 11th, in Madison Square Garden, the birthplace of Hulkamania! Whatcha gonna do?!’

On Update with Sean Mooney, he previews Saturday Night’s Main Event, and shows Ultimate Warrior’s exclusive response to Mr Perfect: ‘I have waged war since I entered the World Wrestling Federation, on a warpath of destruction that has dealt with evil in all its forms! Bobby “The Brain” Heenan has thrown several men my way, from Haku, to “Ravishing” Rick Rude, to the only other undefeated competitor in the WWF, the so-called Mr Perfect. Well, no man is perfect, war is not perfect. Even he himself knows he can’t be perfect, because he not only has Bobby “The Brain” Heenan with him, but this so-called Genius, too, who has already meddled in the matches of Mr Perfect. But if he tries to help his charge stop my undefeated warpath, I’ll destroy him too! Nothing is more honourable than two great unbeaten competitors finally facing one another, but if he chooses dishonorable methods to maintain his record, I will show no mercy and like no other before, they will all feel the power of the Ultimate Warrior!’
