The Bolsheviks win their match.

In Update, Sean Mooney talks about the Survivor Series: ‘You heard the Powers of Pain and The Baron mention it just last week, and indeed here it comes! The WWF Survivor Series 1988 edition will continue “The Thanksgiving Tradition!” However, due to the overwhelming popularity of this year’s tournament at WrestleMania in which “Macho Man” Randy Savage captured the WWF World Championship, this year’s fall-time spectacular will also feature a tourney in which eight men will fight to be called the Sole Survivor! Entrants will be decided over the coming weeks in qualification matches!’ The qualifying brackets show: WWF World Champion “Macho Man” Randy Savage and the Honky Tonk Man; Koko B. Ware and One Man Gang; “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan and Greg “The Hammer” Valentine; Bad News Brown and Tito Santana; Hillbilly Jim and “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase; Hercules and Dino Bravo; Hulk Hogan and “King” Harley Race; Don Muraco and Big Boss Man!

“Ravishing” Rick Rude, with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, wins his match.

In Face to Face, with “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Bret “Hit Man” Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (from a studio in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) tell “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart (from a studio in Memphis, TN) they’ll always be the Hart Foundation! He threatens to sue them for even using the name on television, but they inform him their words will be bleeped out afterwards – then proceed to say it repeatedly to further annoy him! He’s beside himself!

WWF Intercontinental Champion Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake wins his non-title match.

Brother Love: ‘I love you! And I have nothing but love for those who generously support the Brother Love Show itself, the highest-rated segment on WWF Tuesday Night Titans and the very reason they get to keep that very slot on Tuesday nights at all! And you know that is the gospel truth, brothers and sisters! One such supporter is the man who took Andre the Giant to greatness here in the World Wrestling Federation. Here he is, with the unstoppable, inimitable Genetic Freak himself, Andre the Giant…Bobby “The Brain” Heenan!’ They walk onto the set. ‘My, my, my, Andre, you truly are the biggest star of them all here in the World Wrestling Federation! And thanks to you, Brother Bobby, he has enjoyed many lucrative opportunities, such as starring in the smash-hit movie, The Princess Bride, capturing the WWF World Championship from Hulk Hogan, and being the highest-paid tag team partner in all of professional wrestling history by joining “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase to face the Mega-Powers of Hulk Hogan and WWF World Champion “Macho Man” Randy Savage at SummerSlam!’ Heenan: ‘I’m from Beverly Hills, California, Brother Love. I’m an agent, and a businessman, with brains. I do what’s best for business. I support your show, because it’s good for business. And I get this man the success he’s known for, all around the world, because it is good for business. Andre doesn’t have to have me at ringside all the time; he’s no Hercules – he’s not insecure. And he’s sure not stupid, unlike Hercules! Andre the Giant knows a good deal when he sees one. And right now, we’re biding our time, waiting for the right opportunity here in the World Wrestling Federation. Waiting for the right business opportunity-‘ Suddenly, Hercules walks onto the set, carrying his chain! Heenan: ‘Whoa! Put that chain down.’ Hercules drops the chain. Hercules: ‘You can stop being so scared, Weasel! I’ve dropped the chain. I don’t need a chain to scare you, or make you aware of the fact that I’m not stupid; I just simply will not sell out! You’re the stupid one, “Brain.” You’re too stupid to remember where I got my name from! Hercules. Do you know the honour of that name, Weasel? That’s not for sale. You can’t buy that kind of prestige-‘ Suddenly, Andre the Giant assaults him from behind, choking him with his own chain and putting his boot on his back as he lies face-down on the stage, pulling with his giant hands to choke out the Greek God. Officials rush to the scene to stop the attack, which takes several minutes to achieve!

Nemo defeats Bad News Brown by disqualification in a classic.

Bret “Hit Man” Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (not allowed to use the name “Hart Foundation” until their case is settled) win their match.

In Update, Sean Mooney reveals that WWF President Jack Tunney fined Andre the Giant $50,000 for his attack on Hercules. In a video, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Andre the Giant laugh at the fine, saying it was ‘worth every penny,’ and revealing that “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase picked up the tab for it. Sean Mooney acknowledges rumours that, allegedly, Andre was in fact paid by DiBiase to attack Hercules, and Heenan’s comments were in fact specifically designed to provoke him to help DiBiase’s conflict with Hercules, who, fortunately, did not suffer serious injury beyond bruising to his neck, enough to be out of action for another week, but in time to make his qualifying match. Then, Hercules and Andre will face each other at WWF Saturday Night’s Main Event! Sean Mooney then reminds us about WWF Survivor Series 1988, and reveals that the traditional teams match-ups will take place in addition to the Tournament to declare the Sole Survivor of a gruelling three-match sequence, in the process automatically leapfrogging the WWF Intercontinental Championship into the WWF World Championship picture, literally overnight!

Big Boss Man, with Slick, defeats Don Muraco by pinfall to qualify for the Tournament, re-injuring his sternum with his finisher, the Slammer. Don is helped away by medics again.

In Face to Face, with “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan (from a studio in Beverly Hills, CA) tells Hercules (from a studio in Tampa, FL) he has only himself to blame for interrupting his interview on Brother Love’s show, and that it’s paranoid to think the whole thing was a set up. Hercules, with a bruised neck and sore throat, says it’s no coincidence the likes of him and “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase support that segment, because it’s a trap. Heenan again calls him paranoid, and says he’ll never even survive the Tournament qualifier, never mind his match with Andre at Saturday Night’s Main Event later this month.

Koko B. Ware wins his match.

Brother Love: ‘I love you! And I know there are two people who seem to love each other very much, enjoying their time together at the very top of the World Wrestling Federation: my guests at this time, Miss Elizabeth and WWF World Champion, “Macho Man” Randy Savage!’ The two walk onto the set, to a huge pop from the crowd. Brother Love: ‘Indeed you do have that WWF World Championship belt with you, Savage, but what kind of a credible champ will you be if you don’t survive the eight-man one-night Tournament at the Survivor Series? What if you don’t even qualify?’ Savage: ‘Brother Love, I walked onto the biggest stage of all time, WrestleMania IV, competed in a tournament, beat not three but four men, all in one night, and walked away with this WWF World Championship belt that I still wear around my macho waist today, ooh yea. I can do it again. I will do it again! Thereby solidifying my status as the best wrestler in the WWF today. Dig it?’ Brother Love: ‘And what if you don’t? What if you don’t, and what if Hulk Hogan becomes the Sole Survivor, leapfrogging right into the WWF World Championship picture? What then?’ Elizabeth: ‘Brother Love, that’s a lot of “If’s.”’ Savage: ‘That’s right, Elizabeth. And we don’t like If’s, or But’s. The only But’s I like are Elizabeth’s, or all those that I get to kick on my way to becoming the Sole Survivor and still standing at the very top of the World Wrestling Federation!’ Brother Love: ‘But if that truly is your goal, you have to acknowledge that, looking at even just the qualifying brackets, in the finals, you could eventually face your very own tag team partner in the Mega-Powers, Hulk Hogan! Surely you don’t question the fact that he’s capable of making it to the finals, too?’ Elizabeth: ‘No one can question Hulk Hogan’s abilities, Brother Love, least of all us. He’s our dear friend. He’s the other half of the Mega-Powers. We’ve never ignored the fact that that’s a possibility. In fact, it’s a very likely outcome. It’s even the best outcome.’ Brother Love: ‘The best outcome?!’ Savage: ‘It is the best outcome, Brother Love. Now, if you don’t understand what Elizabeth’s telling you, let me put it another way: What better way for Hulk Hogan and I to prove to the whole world that we truly are the Mega-Powers of the World Wrestling Federation than by both being in the finals, together?’ Brother Love: ‘But you see, there it is: you admitted it. You acknowledged the very possible scenario of fighting your own tag team partner, and making the Mega-Powers explode!’ Savage: ‘Oh, you’d like that, Brother Love, yes you would! But it’s not gonna happen. You see, there’s a reason we’re the Mega-Powers. And it’s about mutual respect. How would I feel if I had to wrestle my own tag team partner, Hulk Hogan, in the finals of the prestigious Tournament at the Survivor Series? Well, it’d be an honour and a privilege, Brother Love, yea. But like you said, we both gotta qualify first! So let’s do it! Oooh yea!’

In Face to Face, with “Mean” Gene Okerlund, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan (from a studio in Glens Falls, NY) tells Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, with “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart (from a studio in Memphis, TN), that a saw will always cut a hammer down to size, and he’ll ground him, pound him, and beat him! Hart tells him not this time, as the hammer he’ll be dealing with will be bigger than ever! Valentine says he’s training harder than ever, to get to his very best.

The Powers of Pain, with the Baron, win their match, before ‘belt-shadowing’; gesturing around their waists for the title belts.

A vignette airs showing two rockers leaving a rock concert. Shawn Michaels: ‘That gig rocked. But I know a gig that’ll rock even more: the World Wrestling Federation! And whether we’re at a concert or in the ring, we rock hard.’ Marty Jannetty: ‘And party hard. But we’ll rock any of the tag teams we face in the World Wrestling Federation!’

Brother Love: ‘I love you! My guest at this time is not the WWF World Champion as he once was for many years, yet he still believes he deserves a crown, because he stole Harley Race’s crown after qualifying for the Tourney at the Survivor Series. He is of course none other than Hulk Hogan!’ Hulk Hogan walks onto the set, to a huge pop. Brother Love: ‘Now, Hulk Hogan, clearly you were not happy just beating Harley Race. You had to humiliate him. But your crowning moment was premature. Because you have won nothing of significance for quite some time!’ Hogan: ‘Brother Love, for four years I was the king of the mountain here in the World Wrestling Federation. As for the king’s crown? I can and will be king. But first thing’s first. I will be the Sole Survivor of the Survivor Series this year.’ Brother Love: ‘Well, you may well be in the quarter-finals. But it is there you must face the other man who qualified, and he is not just a man, he is the Big Boss Man. And this is a man you have never ever faced before!’ Hogan: ‘That’s right, but I look forward to facing him! Because as far as I can tell, as he’s with Slick, he’s nothing but a bent cop, brother! I mean, what kind of a law man would hang around with-’ Suddenly, Big Boss Man ambushes Hulk Hogan, hitting him from behind with his billy club! With Hogan on the floor, and Slick encouraging him, the Big Boss Man lifts his ball and chain, about to drop it onto Hogan’s stomach! Suddenly, “Macho Man” Randy Savage chases away the Big Boss Man with a chair, and medics then help Hogan away as Miss Elizabeth stays by his side.

Brother Love: ‘I love you! But you know, not everyone loves. Not everyone loves their neighbour. Not everyone follows the laws of the land. And so they have to be punished! And the man who punishes them is my guest, with Slick, and the One Man Gang, none other than the Big Boss Man!’ Slick leads Big Boss Man onto the set, with One Man Gang. Brother Love: ‘Slick, a lot of people don’t understand why you had the Big Boss Man attack Hulk Hogan last week.’ Slick: ‘Brother Love, it’s real simple. The Big Boss Man came here to bring justice to the World Wrestling Federation! But Hulk Hogan isn’t about justice. He has deceived these people, and calls them Hulkamaniacs. And he has for too long victimised me and my men! He took the WWF World Championship from the Iron Sheik, who was never again the same. He drove Butch Reed out of the World Wrestling Federation! Well now I’ve brought along a man who will punish Hulk Hogan for all of his crimes!’ Big Boss Man: ‘Hulk Hogan’s hard time has just begun being served! Slick told me all about the things he’s done here. He’s stolen wins, he’s stolen belts and he’s stolen crowns! And I knew I had to come to the World Wrestling Federation, to clean up this place! It’s a place where Hulk Hogan’s called a hero. Well, he’s no hero! He deserves to serve hard time. Last week, he got lucky! And if he even makes it to Survivor Series, he’ll finish his sentence there! I’ll make sure of it.’ Slick: ‘As for his partner, “Macho Man” Randy Savage? He may have in his possession the WWF World Championship, but there’s another piece of property I want, and that’s Miss Elizabeth! Yeah, I can make a lot of money from her!’ Big Boss Man: ‘What are you talking about?’ Slick: ‘Nothing, brutha. Just a business idea, where’s she’s away from that man who holds a belt that was stolen from “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase long ago!’ Big Boss Man: ‘Well, they’re all gonna serve hard time!’ Slick: ‘DiBiase’s our friend, brutha; he’s an honest man with money and class. He even paid our fine for us!’ Big Boss Man: ‘He did?’ Slick: ‘That’s right. So corrupt is the World Wrestling Federation, that they try to penalise you for upholding the law!’ Big Boss Man: ‘Well I’ve had enough of it. I’m gonna show the entire World Wrestling Federation the Big Boss Man’s law, whether they like it or not!’

“Mean” Gene Okerlund (backstage, with Hulk Hogan): ‘Hulk Hogan, you’ve clearly made an enemy in Slick: it seems he’s focused on every negative aspect of you he could in order to lure the Big Boss Man into the World Wrestling Federation – along with the criminally insane veteran, One Man Gang – and attack you, and your character.’ Hogan: ‘Well you know something “Mean” Gene, it goes much further than that, brother. Sure, I took the crown from Harley Race, but I beat him fair and square; if it’s a recognised title, then I took it from him the right way, and if it isn’t, then it doesn’t matter, dude! This is the World Wrestling Federation. Is that the best that Slick could do? Or has he been paying the Big Boss Man backhanders all along, in order to get him to do his dirty work for him, in the name of “the law”? Because I think he might be nothing more than a bent cop, brother! Just like I said before. And I guess they didn’t like me telling that to the whole world.’ “Mean” Gene: ‘But Hulkster, everyone wants to know, are you going to be able to face him in the quarter-finals of the Tournament at WWF Survivor Series 1988? The medics here at the World Wrestling Federation informed me that you suffered a concussion from that attack at the hands of the Big Boss Man, who hit you in the back of the head with his billy club.’ Hogan: ‘I won’t lie, “Mean” Gene, I got hit hard by the Big Boss Man’s nightstick, man; he hurt the Hulkster. But I will be there, by hook or by crook, and that crooked cop, the Big Boss Man, will be the one to be punished! So I have a message for him, and Slick: Whatcha gonna do?!’
